Conquering Second Semester

Written by: Khloe El Dorrado

A new opportunity can be exhilarating, exciting, yet challenging. Whenever you aced last semester or felt as though it was a rough patch, you have a fresh start. After the long holidays, it can be difficult to resume a five-day school schedule. While there is no other feeling as the start of a new school year in August, a semester can also feel renewed. You already know your teachers. You already know your peers. You already know your ins and outs around Sandburg. You are ready!

With the new year it would be wise to get a new planner. Second semester can go by in a flash. To keep track of the days, a calendar either online or within your planner can help. Take some time to personalize your calendar. Some may find it helpful to color-code, write important dates, keep with test dates, etc. It is imperative that you assert these organizational skills as soon as you can. Therefore you are taking a step toward a productive semester!

Motivation can be tricky to navigate after December. For seniors, I know it can feel like a daunting journey. But you’re almost there! Have friends encourage you and push you to do your best. There are only eight semesters throughout high school, so make it count! Take each day as a new opportunity to grow. A simple conversation with your teacher or counselor about how you can improve this semester could make all the difference. Summer is around the corner, so finish strong!
